Hello and Welcome to Hello Local!
Hello Local is a platform to support local small businesses and charities across Canada. We host in-person and online events as well as free social media features to connect shoppers to all the many wonderful and talented makers in our communities.
This blog will be used to feature the makers behind the products as well as their stories. If you're interested in being featured, you can contact us or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Starting off our first blog, I thought it would be appropriate to share the importance of shopping local and what does it really mean?
#shoplocal is a phrase that is used quite often, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic started. But what does it really mean to #shoplocal or #supportlocal and why is it important? Shopping local means supporting a small business owner's dreams, supporting a local family with their day-to-day expenses so they can get by, and supporting our economy by putting money back into it.
It's unfortunate that the pandemic has forced so many local events to be cancelled. Events that would normally see local vendors gather and selling their handmade goods to the public. It has forced many business owners to pivot and get creative, move online or suffer the consequences of becoming deceased. We only hope that the small business community can overcome this hurdle and continue to thrive, despite these unprecedented times. That is why we have created this platform, this community and are constantly looking for ways of how we can support the small business industry.
Not only do I love supporting local businesses in-person and online but I try to teach that same mentality to my kids. I have taken my little man to events with me and he loves meeting the local business owners aka friends (I tell him they are my friends so he calls them mommy's friends), engaging with them and exploring their products. I can feel his excitement as well as theirs and it's amazing to see that one small purchase can have so many considerable effects. Many happy dances were done! :)
So the next time, you are looking for a gift for a special occasion or just something for yourself, #shoplocal first and you will be surprised at all the amazing products in your community and within Canada. There is so much to discover.
